Keep Body Posture Open
When you want to draw a pose that feels suggestive, focus on body language that keeps the torso open (don’t cover it with limbs). The torso is the center of the body and generally seen as a vulnerable area. An open torso, with the chest or hips turned toward the viewer, creates a sense of exposure or vulnerability. It gives the pose a feeling of invitation and draws the eye to the middle of the body.
The “anatomy” of the torso is also highly associated with intimacy so focusing on these elements when drawing helps to, well, be suggestive. That’s all I’m going to say about that. How you use it is up to you.
Use limbs strategically
When you draw a suggestive pose, the limbs are helpful for either guiding the viewer’s eyes or creating even more sense of openness. In the former, for instance, you can use the angle of a hand to lead the eye to a certain “areas” associated with intimacy. Using limbs as composition tools you lead the viewer to notice the parts of the body you want to show.
Limbs can also create openness. Widened legs or arms placed behind or away from the body create more space and invitation around the body and remove any sense of blocking. Openness has a strong correlation, visually, with inviting, or being ok with, physical contact or interaction. Be mindful to place the limbs gently – don’t make big outstretched dynamic arms.
Use low energy poses
When you want a pose to feel suggestive, it helps to choose soft or delicate positions instead of ones full of energy. A body that looks like it is resting, leaning, or relaxed feels energetically different from a body that looks like it is jumping, striking, or charging. Big movements suggest force and incoming energy, but suggestive poses are about drawing the viewer in. They are about cueing the viewer to act.
You can show this by lowering the arms, tilting the head, or letting the body sink into a curve. These choices create shapes that feel open and calm. The viewer is not pushed away but is pulled closer. It’s about giving agency to the viewer. Though this will depend on the target viewer. Male or female energy has different flavors. Most of the advice here is about creating inviting female poses. Male energy tends to follow a lot the same cues, but has an underlying dominating quality to it.
Either way, softness comes from less tension in the limbs. Instead of fists or tight lines, try open hands or gentle bends in the knees and elbows. You want the feeling to generally be delicate. These poses are about trust, not challenges – generally.
Use soft facial expressions
When you want a pose to feel suggestive, the face plays a big part. Softer expressions, like softer poses, create a deeper sense of trust and openness. A small mouth is generally better at this than a wide open smile. Just like choosing gentler poses, softer expressions impose less on a viewer energetically, which is a large part of intimate cues. It’s about invitation, not imposition.
As the mouth, the same goes for the rest of the face. Keep eyebrows relaxed, not furrowed. Keep eyelids relaxed or lowered, not wide open. That’s just unsettling.
Of course, none of these are hard rules. You can always use sharper or wild expressions if you want to add drama, story, or characterization. But for most poses where you want intimacy, highlight the torso, keep limb placement open and guiding, use more relaxed poses, and keep facial expressions softer. Do all of those and you have a good chance of making a sexy anime pose!
